Gluten-Free Air Fryer Chimichangas are the perfect meal for anyone looking for a delicious and nutritious gluten-free alternative to their favorite Mexican dish.

Chimichangas are usually deep-fried, but you can enjoy all the flavor without the extra added fat and calories by using an air fryer.

Air fryers work by circulating hot air around the food, so no oil is necessary. To make these gluten-free, simply use your favorite gluten-free tortilla wrap. We really love the Misson brand.

These Chimichangas are stuffed with chicken, cheese, and other delicious Mexican-style ingredients. They are perfect for anyone on a gluten-free diet, or anyone looking for a healthier alternative to deep-fried foods.

So if you're looking for a gluten-free meal that is both tasty easy to make, then look no further than this Air Fryer Chimichangas recipe!

Ingredients and Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken breast
  • Juice of an orange
  • Juice of a lime
  • Garlic clove
  • Ground cumin
  • Diced green chiles
  • Gluten-free tortillas (we love Mission brand)
  • Shredded pepper Jack cheese
  • Olive oil spray
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado
  • Pico de gallo

Chicken - I used shredded rotisserie chicken breast for this recipe to make it easy, but you can use chicken of your choice. You could try shredded grilled shredded chicken breasts or thighs.

Minced Garlic Clove - If you do not have a way to mince garlic, you could buy pre-minced garlic in a jar for this recipe. You could also use ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder instead.

Pepper Jack Cheese - You can use shredded sharp cheddar or your other favorite shredded cheese if you do not like Pepper Jack.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep

  1. First, combine the orange juice, lime juice, garlic, drained chilies, cumin, and chicken in a large bowl and mix well together.
  2. Next, scoop out about one-quarter of the mixture and place in the middle of a tortilla. Sprinkle the top with about 2 tablespoon of cheese.
  3. Fold in the sides of the tortilla and wrap it around the mixture somewhat tightly. Set it aside with the seam side down.
  4. Repeat the last two steps for the rest of the mixture and tortillas.

Step 2: Cook

  1. After that, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  2. Then you will want to lightly spray your air fryer basket as well as all sides of the chimichangas with the cooking spray.
  3. Place 2 of the chimichangas with the seam sides down in your air fryer basket and make sure they are not touching.
  4. Cook the chimichangas for about 7 to 8 minutes, making sure to flip halfway them halfway through. You will know they are done cooking when they are slightly golden and crisp.
  5. Repeat the last two steps with the rest of the chimichangas.

Step 3: Serve

Top each chimichanga with shredded lettuce, two tablespoon of pico de gallo, 1 tablespoon of sour cream, and 1 oz of avocado. Garnish will cilantro if you like and enjoy!

Storage and Reheating

If you want to store and reheat your leftover air fryer chimichangas, you have a few great options!

Best Way To Store

Store any leftover chimichangas in an airtight container or freezer bag. You can also wrap them individually with cling wrap or aluminum foil.

How Long Will The Leftovers Last In the Fridge?

As long as your chimichangas are stored properly, they can last in the fridge for up to 7 days. However, I recommend eating them within two days if you can.

Can I Freeze Leftover Air Fried Chimichangas?

Yes, you can! As long as they are properly stored, you can freeze your leftover chimichangas in the freezer for up to 6 months.

How To Reheat Air Fryer Chimichangas

If the chimichanga has been kept in the refrigerator, warm it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. If frozen, heat it in the microwave for about one minute.

To reheat them in the oven, just bake at 350°F for about ten minutes, until the outside is crispy once again. You can also try your toaster oven!

Expert Tips

  • If you do not have lime juice on hand, lemon juice will also work.
  • You can use guacamole in place of the diced avocado if you prefer.
  • If you are not a fan of pico de gallo, you can use your favorite salsa instead.
