Consumer Alert: Five Recalled Grocery Products You Need to Toss Now
If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a few things tucked away in the freezer that have been there for… well, let’s just say a while. That’s why I wanted to flag this: a major recall just expanded, and nearly 10 million pounds of frozen fried rice are being pulled from shelves across the country. The issue? Some packages may contain small pieces of glass.
Trader Joe’s and other brands are voluntarily recalling these items out of caution, and if you have any in your freezer, you’ll want to check right away. Here’s what to look for.
Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice

The recall started in early March and now covers several frozen rice and appetizer products made by Ajinomoto Foods. The concern is glass fragments—some as small as 1 to 3 centimeters long and a few millimeters wide—that may have come from a contaminated vegetable ingredient, specifically carrots.
Trader Joe’s put it plainly: “We err on the side of caution and are proactive in addressing issues. We voluntarily take action quickly, aggressively investigating potential problems and removing the product from sale if there is any doubt about its safety or quality.”
Trader Joe’s Brand

These Trader Joe’s items, made by Ajinomoto under the TJ’s label, are part of the recall. If you have any, don’t eat them—contact the store and throw them away.
- Chicken Fried Rice – Best By Dates 03/04/2026 through 02/10/2027
- Vegetable Fried Rice – Best By Dates 02/28/2026 through 11/19/2026
- Japanese Style Fried Rice – Best By Dates 02/28/2026 through 11/14/2026
- Chicken Shu Mai – Best By Dates 03/13/2026 through 10/23/2026
These were distributed in nearly every state, so if you shop at Trader Joe’s, it’s worth a quick freezer check.
Kroger Chicken Fried Rice and Kroger Vegetable Fried Rice

The recall also extends to Kroger’s Chinese Inspirations line. If you picked up any of these between March 2025 and March 2026, take a look:
- Kroger Chicken Fried Rice (22 oz) – UPC: 11110-04161 – All codes, purchased between 3/10/2025 and 3/4/2026
- Kroger Vegetable Fried Rice (22 oz) – UPC: 11110-04162 – All codes, purchased between 3/10/2025 and 3/4/2026
Tai Pei Chicken Fried Rice

Tai Pei Chicken Fried Rice is also part of the recall. According to the FSIS, the issue came to light after multiple consumer complaints about glass found in the product. If you have this in your freezer, it’s best to toss it or return it.
Ajinomoto Fried Rice Authentic Japanese Style

Even products sold under the Ajinomoto name directly are included. If you have a bag of Ajinomoto Fried Rice Authentic Japanese Style, check the product codes and err on the side of caution.
What to Do
The FSIS is pretty direct: “FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
So if you find any of these in your freezer, don’t eat them. Either toss them or bring them back to the store for a refund. And if you want the full details—including specific lot codes and labels—the FDA’s website has all the latest updates.
It’s one of those things you hope you don’t have in your freezer, but it’s definitely worth a few minutes to double-check. Stay safe out there.
